TS govt hikes salaries of junior doctors, takes decisions to improve healthcare sector in state

The Telangana State government has decided to enhance the salaries of post graduate doctors (junior doctors) up to 15 per cent in the state. With this enhancement, all the PG doctors working in government hospitals and teaching colleges will get enhanced salaries of Rs.20,700 for first year,Rs.21,700 for second year and Rs.23,000 for third year students.

As per earlier order in 2012(GO no 287), the government has to enhance the salaries of doctors 15 per cent every two years. But due to various reasons like bifurcation of state and other issues, the state government could not implement the order in the year 2014. But now, Chief Minister of Telangana has decided to implement the order and enhanced the salaries of doctors. “We are happy that the Telanagna government has been taking proactive steps to improve the conditions of doctors’ community and healthcare sector in the state. Unlike the earlier instances of strikes and dharnas, now we will focus our concentration on patient care and research,” said a PG doctor working at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad.

Particularly the Telangana Junior Doctors Association expressed happiness and thanked the government for early decisions. “We thank the government for enhancing the salaries of the doctors. Now our focus will be on serving the patients” says Srinivas, president, TSJUDA.

Last year, the junior doctors had gone on an indefinite strike for almost 4 months disrupting all kinds of medical services in the state. Even the government could not pacify the JUDAs. The JUDA withdrew its strike only upon the intervention High Court by declaring strike by doctors as illegal. At the same time the HC had also directed the government to not to keep pending the issues of doctors. And this decision by government has come as positive move.

The TS government has also decided to appoint in charge registrar to Kalogi Narayan Rao Health and Science University (KNRHSU) in Warangal district. The decision is seen as a vital step in the direction to make KNRHSU as a state level Health University and affiliate all medical colleges in Telangana to this university instead of NTR Health University in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.

The TS government has also decided to conduct early Eamcet medical counseling for MBBS admissions. It is expected that Eamcet medical counseling for MBBS admissions will begin from 29th of July and class will commence from first or second week of August 2015.
