Govt college running PG courses without MCI nod?
Nainital: Acting on a petition alleging anomalies in post-graduation courses at Dr Sushila Tiwari Government Medical College and Hospital, Haldwani, the Uttarakhand high court has ordered the personal presence of top medical education officials, including the secretary of Medical Council of India on next hearing of the case on July 28.
A writ petition was filed by Priyanka Chauhan, a resident of Dehradun, on July 13, alleging that she was declined registration with the Uttarakhand Medical Council on the ground that the course she had completed was not recognized by the MCI. Chauhan has completed her PG course in gynaecology and obstetrics from the Dr Sushila Tiwari Government Medical College and Hospital in Haldwani.
The court said, "Prima facie, it seems that Government Medical College, Haldwani has played with the career and future of the students who have been granted admission and who were declared successful in various post graduation medical courses, however, without there being any recognition by the Medical Council of India."
The order dated July 14 states that it is strange that the medical college has granted admission to the petitioner in the post graduation course and classes were held by the institution. The petitioner was declared successful in the post graduation course by the medical college in 2014 awarding her a provision certificate.
The high court also stated that now, the institute itself is saying that the course in question is not recognized by the MCI.
