Health Minister's Assurance on MBBS, PG Medical Seats

Admissions to MBBS seats in Manjeri Medical College will not be affected and not a single medical postgraduate medical seat in the sate will be de-recognised, Health Minister V S Sivakumar said here on Wednesday.

The Health Minister’s assurance came after a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to discuss MBBS and PG medical seat admissions. Sivakuamar said that the recommendations in the report of the Medical Council of India were being implemented.

“Adequate number of doctors and other staff have been appointed. Problems faced by the medical colleges will be discussed and a solution will be arrived at soon,” Sivakumar said adding that a General Hospital will also be built in Manjeri,

“Not a single PG medical seat will be lost. The government will make admissions to the same number of PG seats to which admissions were made last year. There is no restriction on the admission process,” he said.

The meeting also assessed the progress in the construction of upcoming medical colleges. MLAs M Ummer, Roshy Augustine, Health Secretary K Elangovan, Director of Medical Education V Geetha, Director of Health Services P K Jameela and principals of various medical colleges participated in the meeting.
